Greg Feiler (Creature Builder) I have been into special FX art for most of my life ever since '77 when I first saw Star Wars.  Who would have thought, huh? I just fell in love with the creation of cool stuff, especially Sci-Fi. I finally, at 26, went for it and then went to California and worked in the movie, commercial and TV industry for around ten years.  I became a teacher at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and then returned to Cali doing this stuff ever since. Most memorable projects include Hidalgo, Six Feet Under, Carnival, Role Models, Knights of Badassdom, and Power Rangers etc... I've definitely worked on a lot!   I love what I do and just really want to make cool stuff!

Jay Michael Roberts (Scenic Designer) grew up in NW Montana, has a degree in architecture and is completing an MFA Scenic Design at the University of Montana. Matt Merline (Sound Designer) is the resident sound guy for the Nocturne Theater. He runs the ship for any and all sound-related needs. Director's Note

Shrek: The Musical is officially the LARGEST production The Nocturne Theatre has produced. With a cast of 22 people, over 70 costumes, a prosthetics team and more tap shoes than I can even count, this ogre sized production has been our biggest challenge yet!

Just like the movie franchise, Shrek: The Musical is family-friendly, while offering the adults in the audience a few jokes layered in just for them.  A wonderful blend of slapstick, pun-filled humor, mixed with a thoughtful and beautifully melodic score, Shrek: The Musical offers a little something for everyone and teaches us that beautiful ain't always pretty...

My creative goal for this show was to do what the Nocturne always does best, which is to find a unique creative nucleus to build the show around, without losing the charm and recognizable features that made the source material a favorite among audiences.  So the decision was made to root the show and our characters in the style of the 1980's fantasy genre, with it's fantasy cover-art by artists like Frank Frazetta and fantasy films like Legend and Labyrinth.  By doing that, The Nocturne version of Shrek and his pals have stepped off the CGI/Animation screen and now have actual green-flesh on their real life bones.  Big shout out to Tanya Cyr and her team of wardrobe/SPFX artists who took on a monumental task and delivered on it with creativity and skill.

Shrek is inherently filled with joy, humor and silliness--something that our amazing choreographer Melissa Schade has tapped into.  Her choreography for this show is energetic, rollicking and at several times, show-stopping! Not a single person in this cast got to sit out of dancing--not even Thelonius! A triumphant display of hope, humor and love is on display with every time-step.

A big thank you as well to our scenic team of David French and Sydni Sawyer who took our amazing designer Jay Michael Roberts drawings and actually brought them to life on stage.  This show has many 'locations' and they did a great job creating and painting versatile set pieces that take us through an entire fairytale-world, yet fit snuggly on our not-so-world-sized stage.

Special shout out to Melissa Meyer, who not only continued to run The Nocturne Theatre's day to day operations (amongst a very busy Meyer2Meyer Entertainment season), managed to schedule around 22 people's day jobs and conflicts and still found time to put on a pair of dance shoes to learn a whole shows worth of choreography and singing! It's been a pleasure to see her back on stage after a decent hiatus...and I she had fun, so it won't be the last time we see her!

Finally, to this amazingly talented cast: This show requires so much energy, so much dedication, so many costume changes, so much versatility in your acting choices, fearlessness to be silly and foolish and bless ya, Drew, being on your knees the whole show.  Know that I am truly in awe of you all.  It seemed like every page of this script offered us a new challenge, a new character, a new costume, a new puppet--and you took that extremely challenging journey with us with professionalism, extreme patience and genuine care.  It is from the bottom of my heart that I say thank you.  Now get out there--and let your Freak Flags Fly!
